Samsung shipped the phone in two different versions: an NFC enabled one and a normal, no NFC version. The non-NFC version was a hugh commercial success. Also the NFC version was great: it was the first SWP enabled mobile phone for the mass market. The devices was presented in2010 and used in the trial of the NFC-City Nice. As in the past, Samsung relies on NXP technology and therefore a PN544 is found in the devices. The antenna is in the battery cover of the device. From a developers perspective JSR257 and JSR177 can used to control the NFC chip. It is likely that Samsung used NXP’s FRI inside and only built the Java Layer on top.
