Google Debitcard for the Wallet App

As announce earlier, Google is looking into the card business. Now it is official: there is a Google Debit Card. This allows customers to use an ordinary plastic card in order to pay at MasterCard enabled terminals as well as withdraw money at an ATM from their Google Wallet Balance.

Host Card Emulation in Android 4.4 aka KitKat

This week Google announced version 4.4 of is mobile OS Android, also known as “kitkat”. One of the most existing features in this release is the so call “Host Card Emulation” (HCE) mode. This allows application developers to developer software that simulates a smart card with having access to the secure element. In this case the Card Application is running on the host processor. Thus it is call “Host Card Emulation”.

SEEK/OMA is now available Android SDK

Four years after the SEEK Project was started by G&D, the library for accessing the SIM Card from an android application is finally available for Android SDK. At API Level 17, G&D is now providing the Library in a way that it can be integrated into various apps. The library is actually the key for a bunch of application doing so call “OTA-Transactions” (Over-the-Air) in order to install applications on the UICC or make changes to parameters in applets with could be used for payment or ticketing.

NOL Card goes mobile

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced its partnership with Etisalat & du to launch its first ‘Smart Nol’ Service for Dubai commuters utilizing public transport. Smart NOL enables smoother travel and accessibility via NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled mobile phones. Commuters can utilize RTA’s Smart NOL technology by placing their mobile devices against the card readers at the passing gates of the metro stations, or validator devices onboard public buses and water buses.

National NFC Wallet for Austria

Today a consortium out of MNOs (T-Mobile, Drei), Banks (Erste Bank, Raiffeisen), Card Issuers (Card Complete, Paylife) and Acquirer announced the “Mobile Wallet Austria” NFC-Initiative in order to create an open, nationwide standard for mobile wallets. With this mobile wallet consumers are able to pay contactless with their mobile phones and subsequently to use special offers like loyalty cards, vouchers and coupons at the Point of Sale by a simple touch. At least this is the basic idea that is behind the concept.

Samsung Wallet – but without NFC

Today at the mobile world congress (MWC) in barcelona Samsung showed its newest innovations for the Samsung Galaxy Series Devices: The Samsung Wallet. The wallet application — which is very similar to Apple’s passbook in multiple aspects — will be available only as a developer preview at the moment. But with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S IV, the Samsung Wallet will hit the mass market. Currently it was not clear, if and which devices in the market will be able to install at the Samsung Wallet. By the Way: The Wallet will not use NFC, this feature will be left to other players such as VISA.

Today the mobile world congress (MWC) in Barcelona, handset Manufacturer Samsung and Visa announced joint efforts to bring mobile payment using NFC onto the customer’s mobile phone. Therefore Samsung provides APIs on the device for Post Issuing Personalization as well as Visa a new Mobile Provisioning Service for service providers. The first device, which support for these exciting features is the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S IV, which will be announced on March 14th, 2013.

4 Million MasterCard paypass cards in 2013 for Austria

Today Rainer Schamberger, CEO of Austrias largest card issuing supporter Payment Services Austria (PSA), announced the rollout of 4 Million contactless debit cards. The cards are based on MasterCard Maestro Scheme using MasterCard paypass for contactless transactions.

Spar starts to rollout NFC enabled Ingenico Terminals from card complete

Austria’s 2nd largest Retailer Spar is currently replacing its existing payment infrastructure. Today all of its stores are equipped with Hypercom Hybrid Terminals from Paylife. Since this week Spar is replacing these terminals with the Ingenico iPP H-Touch 480 from the Austrian acquirer card complete.

As reported by AndroidPolice already two days ago, now user can see for their shelves what Google’s plan for the Google Wallet is: a contactless Card. Yet it is not clear how this will work in detail and why Google is doing this, but lets look behind the curtain, to see what options there are.
